Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition

To empower Muslim women by providing them with the skills and training necessary for self advocacy, leadership and economic security. To advocate for Islam and Muslims by promoting an accurate understanding of the faith, to encourage dialogue amongst all people, to protect civil liberties and to build relationships and coalitions that work for justice, harmony, peace and understanding.

Founded in 1994, the Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition began as a local educational outreach organization dedicated to promoting an accurate understanding of Islam and Muslim women. The MMWC addresses a wide range of groups including schools, universities, businesses, law enforcement agencies, healthcare centers, religious establishments, community organizations and the media. This is done through presentations, workshops, seminars, panel discussions and other forums. In addition, the MMWC provides resources and educational materials to groups that seek information and tools to promote understanding.

Over the years, the MMWC’s work expanded to include leadership, healthcare, and job training programs for women and girls. This was in recognition of the fact that empowered, healthy women that are economically secure, strengthen their families, communities and country.

The MMWC has been an active leader and participant in community events, interfaith and inter-religious dialogue, and a wide variety of educational, healthcare, and leadership forums. Building relationships amongst a wide range of community groups in an effort to promote peaceful communities.

The MMWC has established itself as a trusted resource on Islam, Muslim Women and Islamic issues in the Greater Milwaukee area and beyond. Their tremendous work in outreach, advocating for social justice, promoting civil rights and building relationships and coalitions has made them the most recognizable Muslim Women’s organization in Wisconsin.
