Unity in Motion
Description
Unity in Motion is a nonprofit organization that makes a long-term commitment to Milwaukee's central city youth - from adolescence all the way through early adulthood - to foster personal development and provide educational support.
Unity in Motion partners with high-performing schools in central city by providing programs and financial support for youth to develop academic skills and strong personal values.
Since its inception in April 2000 as a no-cost non-violent martial arts class for Milwaukee Central city youth, Unity in Motion has evolved and grown offering participants three main benefits:
- Character development programming: non-violent martial arts and dance instruction, community service and social outings designed to build strength, self-esteem and perseverance to help graduates take advantage of educational opportunities and ultimately lead a life of service to others.
- Scholarships and educational support - including post-secondary scholarships, private tutoring and tuition assistance to assist youth in achieving their post-secondary educational goals.
- A long-term commitment to participating youth from adolescence all the way to early adulthood.
We value one-on-one involvement with the youth, including face-to-face meetings with parents and teachers to mutually provide educational opportunities for those with less access.
Partnership examples include: Dr. Howard Fuller/Director - Institute for the Transformation of Learning, Robb Raugh/Principal - Milwaukee College Prep, Henry Tyson/Superintendent - St. Marcus School, Kole Kneuppel/Co-Founder of "Schools that Can Milwaukee" and Jamie Luehring/ Principal - Hope Prima.
