UMOS, Inc.
Description
UMOS, a non-profit advocacy organization, provides programs and services which improve the employment, educational, health and housing opportunities of under-served populations.
For the past 46 years, UMOS has been addressing the needs of farmworkers and other underserved populations. This is done through programs and services that address adults, youth, children and families in a holistic manner.
UMOS programs include workforce development including education, training, job placement and job retention, provided through the Southeast Job Center in Milwaukee and two National Farmworker Jobs Training programs in Wisconsin and Missouri. UMOS owns several rural housing developments, some of which serve seasonal migrant workers and two that are year round. Health services include prevention of STIs and pregnancy and tobacco use; domestic violence and sexual assault services for children, teens and adults, who may also be eligible for immigration services as well as human trafficking services. UMOS emphasizes education including English as a Second Language, preparation for GED, testing for GED, and early childhood education through the Migrant Head Start programs in Wisconsin and Missouri.
